New Canaan is one of the wealthiest towns in Fairfied County.  In 2008’s CNN’s Money Magazine and Connecticut Magazine ranked it first among 29 Connecticut towns with populations of 15-25,000. In 2010 Forbes Magazine ranked New Canaan second in the nation for schools in the over $800,000 priced real estate markets and in 2011 US NEWS gave New Canaan a Silver Medal school spot.  The 2008 median SAT score was 1804, the highest in the state.  Additionally, in 2009 it was rated as the highest performing school district by Connecticut and received seven 2011 State Awards in Musical Theater, and sports (Football champs in 2011).

This town is an ideal choice for people who want to live in a sophisticated small town with country setting.Residents can travel to New York City on Metro-North directly during peak hours, (approximately 1 hour trip).  During off-peak hours they must transfer in Stamford. The train arrives right at New Canaan’s Main Street, known for its mix of antique stores, high-end stores, Mom and Pop’s and national chains, theater and restaurants – all in a setting of a quaint, red brick New England town.

New Canaan is proud of its Waveny Park, a 300-acre park with 50-meter swimming pool, sports fields, artist lofts and the best dog park in the area. New Canaan has an unusual mixture of traditional New England homes and mid-century modern homes as a result of the “Harvard Five” (Marcel Breuer, Landis Gores, John Johansen, Philip Johnson, and Eliot Noyes – all Harvard architects) who relocated to New Canaan. In the 1930-40’s Philip Johnson and David Whitney’s acquired a total of 47 acres and built 14 structures on the property including the famous “Glass House”.  They also assembled an impressive art collection.  Their standing in the art community attracted many artists to the Town of New Canaan. Today, the National Trust of Historic Preservation runs the estate as a museum, which is open to the public. It continues to be the setting for many film and art festivals.

Whether you like art, architecture, and book groups, outdoor or volunteer activities the upscale Town of New Canaan offers a unique blend of it all.
